4-Down Territory: RIVALRY WEEK & Archaeology Discovers True Origins of the Run/Pass Option

Black Friday? Who cares? It is rivalry weekend and a big tip of the hat to the ACC and SEC for playing just eight conference games and opening up the last weekend of the year for non-conference in-state rivalry games. That means Louisville-Kentucky, Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech and Clemson-South Carolina games. Perhaps the Big Ten and Big 12 could see their way to going back to eight conference games and restoring Penn State-Pitt, Texas-Texas A&M and Nebraska-Oklahoma……. 1st Down: Division Title Games: ACC Coastal Friday Special Virginia Tech at Virginia: George W Bush was in the White House the last time UVA beat Virginia Tech although it seems like it may have been George HW

4-Down Territory: Breaking Down PSU vs OSU, Division Races Heat Up & More Great Football History

With just two weeks to go there are still seven of ten Power-5 Conference Championship Game berths still up for grabs. Who’s In? SEC East: Georgia, ACC Atlantic: Clemson, Pac 12 North: Oregon. That should keep us all tuned in the next two weeks. 1st Down: The Pac 12 Race in The Grand Canyon State: #7 Utah at Arizona: The Utes lost to USC this year which means they must win out if USC beats UCLA on Saturday. Despite a slew of injuries at the QB position USC has kept the pressure on Utah. Arizona is on a 5-game skid where they’ve allowed 223 points (44.75 per game). Utah should roll.…..#6 Oregon at Arizona State: With Oregon having the North Division title clinched, the second of two big Pac-1

1st Down: Big Ten Tri-Bill: #8 Minnesota at #20 Iowa: Last week Minnesota Quarterback Tanner Morgan completed 90% of his passes (a record for any PSU opponent). Iowa’s secondary and pass rush must provide a stiffer test to have a chance. Iowa's inconsistent run game will need to be very good to avoid throwing into a Gopher secondary that has picked off 14 passes. Safety Antoine Winfield, Jr has 7 for the season…… Indiana at #9 Penn State: Indiana’s patient offense, accurate short passing game and receiving corps could be a problem for the PSU secondary and linebackers. Penn State’s pass rush has been inconsistent and given how quickly IU will get the ball out they could be hard pressed to ge

1st Down: High Noon Showdowns: #4 Penn State at #17 Minnesota: This game may be a noon kickoff in the east but in Minneapolis the ball goes up just after 11 a.m. The secret to Penn State’s unbeaten run? It’s been their kicker, punter and turnover margin. Against Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State, Penn State put their opponents on long fields and got critical game-winning points after turnovers. The PSU 4-man RB by committee has just 2 TDs in the last four games and for the season averages just 19 combined carries per game. So it is hard to evaluate their production. Minnesota’s offensive line will be a key to this game. If they can run the ball and stay on schedule the Gophers will have a c

4 Down Territory: Best Conferences, Divisions, Games & Amazing 19th-Century Football History

With a relatively down week of match-ups we've got the big games, a look at the conference's strengths through 9 weeks and a gallery of amazing pictures. Nine of the Top 25 teams are off this week including #1 LSU, #2 Alabama, #3 Ohio State, #5 Penn State, #10 Oklahoma and #13 Minnesota. 1st Down:The Cocktail Party: #8 Georgia vs #6 Florida: These teams meet again in Jacksonville in a game between two strong defensive teams that should decide the SEC East. In defensive showdowns the games are often lost by mistakes. Georgia will need to have a good day from Quarterback Jake Fromm and that could be the difference. He has shown the ability to have big days in big games. But in their only loss
