Live THON TV Show Returns for a 3rd Year
If you want to be inspired by the students at Penn State, then make plans to be in front of your TV or computer at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday February 17th.. "Dancing For a Cure--Live from THON" will be airing for a third straight year.
The show began in 2022 when 6ABC WPVI in Philadelphia wanted to create a live show to highlight Penn State's 46-hour Dance Marathon (THON). It focused on the incredible efforts by Penn State students to raise millions of dollars to fight pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State's Hershey Medical Center.
As an Executive Producer on that first show, we hoped that we'd get good response. After Penn State Health signed on to be the presenting sponsor, the show aired live in primetime on Saturday night of THON in Philadelphia, on stations across the state and in New York City on WABC.
The response went beyond our wildest expectations......That first show won its primetime slot in both Philadelphia and New York and sparked a surge in on-line donations during and after the show.
In 2024 the show is back for a third straight year. This year two of the show's three co-hosts are Penn State alums (6ABC's Brittany Boyer and Caroline Goggin who danced in THON during her senior year at Penn State). Once again, the focus remains on the year-round efforts of Penn State students and the children and families they help.
The show will air state-wide and in NYC on Saturday Night February 17th at 7:30 p.m. on the following stations:
6ABC WPVI in Philadelphia
WABC in New York City
WTAE ABC in Pittsburgh
WPMT Fox 43 in York/Harrisburg
WATM ABC in State College
The show will reach over 11% of all-homes in the country, the homes of roughly 35 million people. And for those living outside our coverage area you can tune in on 6ABC's website.
Proud Penn Staters will tell you that THON is the best thing we do on this campus. And if you can't get here to see it, do the next best thing and tune in to watch.
